Stan describes this piece as "an attempt to create a carving of a sea creature in motion", and in my opinion it is a very successful attempt. The carving is made from a relatively thin piece of mammoth ivory, and is situated on a stand from aromatic cedar. The wavy pattern on the stand represents water.
