Complete Mammoth Tusks

Most of mammoth ivory comes in broken pieces, and complete tusks are more rare. It is hard to find a complete tusk that has not been damaged by sun, air and water.

The tusks can be divided in two categories: collectible restored specimens and raw untouched tusks. Restored specimes are soaked with glue, polished to shine and are covered with lacquer that protects them from damage. Such specimens will not crack with time. They are very stable and will last for many years. The other type - raw untouched tusks - were cleaned from the dirt and dried. They were not polished or covered with any preservatives. Such specimens may be used for carving, so they are valued for their interior material.

These specimens come from Siberian North and make great coversation pieces or carving material.
